Since the implementation of Fire Insurance Protection - Smoke Index (FIP-SI) in California for the 2025 crop year, the Risk Management Agency (RMA) has received helpful feedback regarding the information available on the program. The most common request was for additional education materials that provide more information about how the policy works. In response, to facilitate an increased understanding of FIP-SI, RMA has created additional tools for farmers, agents, and Approved Insurance Providers.

For the Common Crop Insurance Policy, the Risk Management Agency (RMA) approved 2024 CY harvest prices for insurance offers with a harvest price discovery period of August 15, 2024, through September 14, 2024. For the Common Crop Insurance Policy and Area Risk Protection Insurance, RMA approved 2025 CY projected prices and volatility factors for insurance offers with a projected price discovery period of August 15, 2024, through September 14, 2024.

The Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018 (Farm Bill) included language to improve the effectiveness of WFRP. The Risk Management Agency (RMA) continues to solicit stakeholder recommendations.
