PM-20-014: Hurricane Insurance Protection – Wind Index (HIP-WI)

Background

On November 15, 2019, the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation Board of Directors approved the Hurricane Insurance Protection – Wind Index (HIP-WI) Endorsement. It is available for the 2020 crop year for both Catastrophic (CAT) and additional coverage for Common Crop Insurance Policy Basic Provisions policies, when provided in the actuarial documents, in counties located in the vicinity of the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, as well as Hawaii.

PM-20-013: Requests to Increase Prevented Planting Coverage Level

Background

The Risk Management Agency is receiving questions regarding what factors approved insurance providers (AIPs) should consider when determining whether a cause of loss is present that could prevent planting, resulting in the denial of an insured’s request to increase their prevented planting (PP) coverage level.

Section 17(b)(4) of the 2020 Basic Provisions states:

MGR-20-003: Prevented Planting Coverage on Added Land

Background

The Risk Management Agency is receiving questions regarding when prevented planting coverage determinations should be made on added land.

Section 17(f)(12) of the 2020 Basic Provisions states:

(f) Regardless of the number of eligible acres determined in section 17(e), prevented planting coverage will not be provided for any acreage:

PM-20-010: Nursery Value Select Program Materials Effective for the 2021 and Succeeding Crop Years

Background

On November 15, 2019, Nursery Value Select (NVS) was approved for implementation by the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation Board of Directors. The Risk Management Agency (RMA) developed NVS to make nursery crop insurance more attractive and effective for producers nationwide, along with incorporating feedback from stakeholders on the current program’s shortcomings. This new pilot will provide producers with another risk management option that is more customizable to their specific insurance needs with less paperwork and fewer restrictions.

PM-20-009: Hemp Actual Production History (APH) Insurance Program

Background

On December 19, 2019, the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation Board of Directors approved the Hemp APH Insurance Program, a privately developed product submitted under section 508(h) of the Federal Crop Insurance Act. It is available for the 2020 crop year for producers in certain counties in Alabama, California, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
