The Pistachio Insurance Program has been piloted to determine acceptance by producers as an effective and affordable risk management tool and to assure the program is actuarially sound. The Federal Crop Insurance Corporation Board of Directors (Board) granted approval for the conversion of the program from pilot to permanent status based on the favorable pilot program experience on March 5, 2020.

On August 10, 2020, a derecho storm system caused catastrophic damage across the Midwest. The Risk Management Agency (RMA), in conjunction with Approved Insurance Providers (AIPs), recognize the need for authorizing emergency procedures to streamline certain loss determinations on specific crops, which will accelerate the adjustment of losses and issuance of indemnity payments to crop insurance policyholders in impacted areas.

The Risk Management Agency (RMA) has received numerous reports that Approved Insurance Providers (AIPs) are instructing insureds that RMA requires damaged production be harvested to be eligible for a crop insurance indemnity.

The Federal Crop Insurance Corporation has expanded the number of counties where certain crops are insurable for the 2021 crop year having an August 31 contract change date. The following attachment, 2021 Expansion of Existing Perennial Crop Programs, lists the expansion by crop, state, and county for this permanent (non-pilot) program.

The projected prices and volatility factors are applicable for the crop, types, and states indicated in the following table.
