PM-25-035: California Prune Counties – 2025 Crop Year Prune Reference Date and Average Dry Count per Pound

BACKGROUND:

This Bulletin establishes the 2025 crop year Prune Reference Date. In addition, it provides Approved Insurance Providers with the average dry prune count per pound for calculating second-period immature prune appraisals.

Each year the Davis Regional Office (DRO) establishes the Prune Reference Date. This date occurs one to two weeks after prune pit tip hardening when 80 to 90 percent of the seed shows the presence of endosperm, a clear jelly-like substance at the bloom end of the seed.

The Risk Management Agency (RMA) issued Product Management Bulletin PM-24-039 on June 27, 2024, announcing changes to several policies under the Expanding Options for Specialty and Organic Growers (EOSOG) Final Rule. Today, June 27, 2024, the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC) published a final rule in the Federal Register that amended Subpart J (Appeal Procedure), Common Crop Insurance Policy (CCIP), Basic Provisions and Area Risk Protection Insurance (ARPI), Basic Provisions, and various Crop Provisions.
