Crop Insurance Deadline Nears in Delaware

RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 15, 2015 — USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA) reminds Delaware green pea producers that the final date to apply for insurance on next year’s crop is February 15, 2015. Current policyholders who wish to make changes to their existing policies also have until February 15 to do so. Crop insurance provides protection against a loss in green pea production due to natural perils, such as drought or excessive moisture.

Price election for 2015 is the price per pound stated in the green pea processor contract (contracted price) for the tenderometer reading, grade factor, or sieve size contained in the Special Provisions. Crop insurance on green peas is available in Kent, New Castle, and Sussex counties. Producers should contact a local crop insurance agent for premium quotes and further details.

Crop insurance is sold and delivered solely through private crop insurance agents. A list of crop insurance agents is available at all USDA Service Centers and online at agent locator.
