Sales Closing Date Nears for Tennessee Crop Insurance Programs

Barley, Oats, and Wheat Growers Need to Make Decisions Soon

JACKSON, Miss., Sept. 20, 2017 - The USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA) reminds Tennessee producers that the final day to purchase federal crop insurance for barley and wheat is September 30. Current policyholders and uninsured growers who wish to buy a policy for the 2018 crop year must make all decisions on crop insurance coverage by the sales closing date for that crop. Decisions include what crops to insure and what coverage level to choose.

Federal crop insurance is critical to the farm safety net. It helps producers and owners manage revenue risks and strengthens the rural economy. Information on available coverage for barley, canola, and wheat in select counties can found on the RMA Information Browser.

Crop insurance is sold and delivered solely through private crop insurance agents. A list of crop insurance agents is available at all USDA Service Centers and online at the RMA Agent Locator. Producers can use the RMA Cost Estimator to get a premium amount estimate of their insurance needs online.

For more information about crop insurance and the modern farm safety net, visit the RMA website.
