Hurricane Insurance Protection – Wind Index (HIP-WI) Effective for the 2021 and Succeeding Crop Years
Background
The Federal Crop Insurance Corporation Board of Directors approved the Hurricane Insurance Protection – Wind Index (HIP-WI) Endorsement, on November 15, 2019. It continues to be available for the 2021 crop year for both Catastrophic (CAT) and additional coverage for Common Crop Insurance Policy Basic Provisions policies, when provided in the actuarial documents, in counties located in the vicinity of the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, and Hawaii.
Action

The following 2021 HIP-WI materials will be available by close of business today on the RMA website at www.rma.usda.gov.

  • Hurricane Insurance Protection–Wind Index (HIP-WI) Endorsement (21-HIP-WI)
  • 2021 Hurricane Insurance Protection – Wind Index (HIP-WI) Insurance Standards Handbook (FCIC-24360)
  • 2021 Hurricane Data Provisions (HDP) (21-HDP)

For 2021 and subsequent crop years, the sales closing date for the HIP-WI will be the same as the sales closing date for the underlying crop policy. The 2021 HIP-WI materials will apply to the HIP-WI Endorsement for crops with a contract change date of August 31, 2020, or later.

Approved insurance providers must notify policyholders of these changes at least 30 days prior to the cancellation date, as required by the policy.

Interested producers should contact a crop insurance agent for further information. A list of agents can be found on the RMA website at: www.rma.usda.gov/Information-Tools/Agent-Locator-Page
