Expansion of the Rainfall Index, Annual Forage Plan of Insurance Effective for 2017 and Succeeding Crop Years
Background
On August 8, 2016, the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation Board of Directors approved the expansion of the Rainfall Index Annual Forage (RI-AF) plan of insurance to all counties in New Mexico. The RI-AF plan is a privately developed product approved under Section 508(h) of the Federal Crop Insurance Act. The RI-AF plan of insurance offers protection for annually planted crops used for feed or fodder under the Rainfall Index Basic Provisions.
Action

RI-AF is expanded to all counties in New Mexico. The expansion will be a mid-year implementation, beginning with growing season two, April 30 – September 30, of the 2017 crop year. The RI-AF materials will be available by close of business today and may be accessed on the RMA website at: www.rma.usda.gov/policies/ri-vi/

Producers interested in purchasing an Annual Forage policy must contact a crop insurance agent and complete an application that will be submitted through an Approved Insurance Provider (AIP). A list of crop insurance agents authorized by AIPs to write crop insurance is on the Risk Management Agency (RMA) website at: www.rma.usda.gov/tools/agent.html

In addition, there will be a correction of error regarding the cancellation date of the policy posted in the Actuarial Information Browser (AIB). The cancellation date will now match the sales closing date. This information is available in the AIB for 2017 and succeeding crop years.
