WASHINGTON, Jun 28, 2001 – USDA's Risk Management Agency today announced that a pilot Forage Seed Crop Insurance
program will be available in 10 counties in 7 states, and a revised Malting Barley Price and Quality Endorsement for the pilot Income Protection Barley Crop Insurance Program will be available in 7 states.
The pilot forage seed program will be implemented for crop years 2002 through 2005. Counties include: Kings County, CA; Owyhee County, ID; Big Horn County, MT; Humboldt and Pershing Counties, NV; Malheur County, OR; Grant and Walla Walla Counties, WA; and Big Horn and Park Counties, WY.
The revised Malting Barley Price and Quality Endorsement for the pilot Income Protection Barley Crop Insurance program allows malting barley producers who contract with an entity other than a brewery or a business associated with a brewery to benefit from improved coverage. The revised endorsement has been approved for the 2002 crop year only and caps the malting barley non-brewery additional price at $1.25 per bushel. The program will be available in most counties in ID, MN, MT, ND, OR, SD, and WA. Experience gained with the revised endorsement will be considered in determining its availability beyond the 2002 crop year.
Producers who need more information about sales closing
dates or their insurance options should contact a crop insurance agent. A
