USDA RELEASES STUDIES ABOUT FEDERAL CROP INSURANCE PROGRAM

WASHINGTON, Sep 23, 2009 - USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA) has released the results of a study completed by Milliman Inc., which analyzes a reasonable rate of return for crop insurers participating in the Federal Crop Insurance Program. RMA also released a study which lays out the historical rates of return for those companies.

These studies are available online at http://www.rma.usda.gov/pubs/2009/millimanreasonablerate.pdf and http://www.rma.usda.gov/pubs/2009/millimanhistoricalrate.pdf .

The companies involved in the studies are reinsured by the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC) by the Standard Reinsurance Agreement (SRA). The results will aid in this year’s SRA discussions between RMA and the participating insurance companies that deliver the Federal crop insurance program to American farmers and ranchers through a network of agents nationwide.

Discussions between these companies and RMA about the SRA have recently begun, as provided by the 2008 Farm Bill.
