RMA EXPANDS PILOT PECAN INSURANCE PROGRAM
Sep 26, 2002 - On September 19, 2002, the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC) Board of Directors voted to expand the pilot pecan program into 79 additional counties in Georgia for the 2003 crop year. The pilot program will also be converted to a permanent program effective for the 2004 crop year.
The 79 additional counties in Georgia that are eligible for the pilot Pecan Revenue program are:
Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Baker, Baldwin, Ben Hill, Berrien, Bibb, Bleckley, Brantly, Brooks, Bulloch, Burke, Calhoun, Camden, Candler, Clinch, Coffee, Colquitt, Cook, Crawford, Crisp, Decatur, Dodge, Dooly, Early, Emanuel, Evans, Grady, Hancock, Houston, Irwin, Jasper, Jeff Davis, Jefferson, Jenkins, Johnson, Lamar, Lanier, Laurens, Lowndes, McDuffie, Macon, Marion, Meriwether, Miller, Montgomery, Peach, Pierce, Pike, Pulaski, Putnam, Randolph, Richmond, Schley, Screven, Seminole, Spalding, Stewart, Sumter, Talbot, Tattnall, Taylor, Telfair, Terrell, Thomas, Tift, Toombs, Truetlen, Turner, Twiggs, Upson, Ware, Washington, Wayne, Webster, Wheeler, Wilcox and Worth counties.
The program was originally established in 1998 in three Georgia counties--Dougherty, Lee, and Mitchell; one county in New Mexico--Dona Ana; and three counties in Texas--Culberson, El Paso, and Pecos. Expansion of the program was due to exceptional program performance (high levels of participation and low loss ratios) and strong grower interest.
Program documents will be in the new counties in early October. The sales closing date for pecan insurance is November 20.
