WASHINGTON, Sep 9, 2002 - Risk Management Agency Administrator Ross J. Davidson today announced the appointment of Byron E. Anderson as the Associate Administrator of USDA's Risk Management Agency (RMA).

"Mr. Anderson's experience in government relations and insurance will serve the RMA well," said Davidson.

Anderson is an attorney with over 25 years' experience with Congress as well as several financial, insurance and regulatory organizations in Washington, D.C. Most recently, he directed federal government relations as senior vice president for Government Affairs for the American General Corporation.

Originally from Johnstown, Pa., Anderson holds a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Russian Studies from University of Pittsburgh and a Juris Doctor from Antioch School of Law. He and his wife are the parents of two children and reside in Chevy Chase, Md.

Last year, RMA and crop insurance companies provided producers nearly $37 billion of insurance protection in over 211 million acres of crops through nearly 1.3 million policies.
